VoIP?

We interrupt regularly scheduled cute dog and knitting content to bring you a burning question about phone service.

Does anyone out there have VoIP? What service provider?

I currently have Comcast internet service, and they are going to be bringing their fairly expensive VoIP ($39.99) service to Chicagoland this July. I am slightly worried that if I go with another company, I will end up getting screwed by Comcast eventually. Vonage would probably be my first choice, but I don’t know anyone with it to get an honest opinion. I know someone with AT&T CallVantage, but he is a salesman for AT&T, so how unbiased of a review will I get from him? Any ideas? I am paying an obscene amount of money for my unlimited phone service a month, and checking my voicemails online sounds like a very nice proposition.

Help? Please!

I have Vonage. I have to say I like it better than my old phone service with Verizon. Sometimes it acts up, but in the last year I think its been a grand total of twice. I like the fact that it will e-mail if I get a voicemail. I think its a wonderful product.

We use Vonage and really like it. The cost can’t be beat–especially if you have to make some international calls (pennies per minute!). We also took our Vonage box to London once and called my mom in the US just to check out how well it would work. Perfectly! Woo hoo! Good luck!

Be careful about using Vonage. I have heard that if you call 911 they can’t tell where you are. Make sure you ask about that before agreeing to anything. I have just your basic cutrate service through Qwest. I’ve got dialup through NetZero because we have no other options out in the middle of nowhere. We don’t even have cable tv. lol

I don’t know anything about Vonage…but congrats on your new blog site!

We have vonage and like it. Prefer it rae wise to the other VoIP services we have had. And we have never had trouble switching.

5hours of shitty customer service, TWO routers, and still no phone service. VONAGE sucks.

Hmm. No clue about Vonage but am interested to hear what everyone has to say. VOIP is still new to me.
