The Consumer Wins!

in Yarn

Well, folks, I think it’s happened. I think Knit Picks has really ignited the revolution. Yesterday I 2838 received my Valley Yarns catalog. I knew Webs has this line of yarn, but it looks like they are going to market the heck out of it. The catalog showcased their direct from the mill yarns and patterns to go with the yarns. Most of the patterns showcased are free with yarn purchase. And I don’t even think you have to buy enough yarn for the project, or even the yarn that is used in the project. The layout of the pattern info is very similar to Knit Picks, so a customer can easily go from one catalog to the next and not skip a beat.

The Valley Yarns are also available for the usual Webs Discount. I guess this makes up for having to pay shipping! One feature I noticed that I like about the Valley Line is the color card information. You can purchase an entire binder of color cards for the Valley Yarns line. You can also buy them separately, but the price is so much better for the binder.

Think Knit Picks has a leg up with their needle line? Think again. Webs has their own bamboo interchangeable line. You even get to choose the fabric of your needle roll!

I have yet to try the yarns, but I noticed the competition is heating up for quality inexpensive yarns. (Is Elann going to send out a catalog next?) And it does not seem that the two companies are totally competing against each other. Some of the yarns are similar fiber content, but quite a few are different. Hey, I am not complaining! It’s the consumer who is going to win this war of yarn!!

Everyone’s been talking about Knit Picks lately! I have yet to order from them – I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Shine so it’s only a matter of time before I check them out (although I think I have collectively spent about $1000 on yarn in the last few months so I need to cool it for a while after my last hurrah at Stitches.)
I just signed up for the Elann one year swatching membership and color swatches so we’ll see how that goes.

Wait, you got a Valley Yarns catalog in the mail?? How did you swing that?? There’s no catalog request on the web site…only the big book-catalog-thingies that cost $25.
I want one!! 😉
