Mama’s got a new skirt

in sewing, Yoda

While sewing a tote bag well is an accomplishment, it is a real accomplishment to be able to sew a garment that fits. While the author of this book has been creating waves with her "Stitch ‘n Bitch" antics , I still feel that her book is well written. I’ve had this book since Christmas time and have finally gotten the nerve to start using it. It contains three patterns: pillow, tote, and skirt. While I have mastered pillow and tote sewing, skirt sewing is new to me. I don’t think I have ever sewed a garment that fit me and looked good enough to wear in public. So, I found some nice microfiber fabric at WallyWorld, of all places, at an awesome price and set ahead. The one thing about sewing that frustrates me is the numbers. You might very well be a size 6 in store bought clothing, but end up measuring out to be a 10 or 12 when you are sewing a piece of clothing. I need to tell myself that the numbers mean nothing!! So, without furhter ado, my new skirt:

I highly recommend this book for beginner sewers. While I probably won’t ever really wear this skirt, I gained some valuable skills. (I just look better in A-line skirts and not so much in pencil skirts) I feel confident enough to be able to purchase another pattern and be able to produce something somewhat wearable!!

So I think Yoda is ready to go on a little trip. Wendy has been having similar problems with Lucy, but I just don’t know where Yoda got it.

Hey! I haven’t met anyone else who knows about the Sew Fast Sew Easy sewing book (except for the uproar the author’s currently causing, that you mentioned.) I should send you a picture of my tote bag and skirt!!!
If you’re interested in taking more sewing classes, I am actually registered for one at COD (College of DuPage) this summer and a follow-on one at COD in the fall! (Yeah, this is why I’ve stopped teaching online temporarily and am not taking a summer class in the MBA program – my priorities are straight!!)
