BFF gets a hat too!

in BFF Hat

BFF lost his most favorite hat. It was dark blue and ribbed. It was made of cotton, and the last time I saw it, it needed to be repaired because it had been loved so much. So, he asked me to make him a new one, but he wanted it to be dark, dark grey…almost black, but not black. Well, actually, he first wanted it dark, dark, dark red. That color proved to be a little difficult to find quickly and in a cotton or cotton blend that I thought he would like, so the grey was a compromise of sorts.

So, I decided that Cotton-Ease would probably be the best yarn to use and get on short notice. I found at Michael's that they had the color "charcoal". I thought this should be the perfect almost black color. Well, it's some sort of color alright. When I was going through the bin, I noticed a lot of the balls looked blue. In fact, I first thought all the charcoal was out and someone else moved navy to the wrong bin. Then I looked at the color name and saw, in fact, it was the correct one. I picked the most grey balls I could find and bought those.

When I got it into the sunlight, it did look less blue and more grey/black. But when BFF put the hat on to try it on for the first time, it looked blue. He didn't even know the story of the yarn, yet still asked if it was blue or grey. He said it didn't matter because he loves it no matter what. And it keeps his head nice and warm, which is what any shaved heat guy needs!

I also bought some burgandy Vanna's Choice to give it a try for a dark, dark, dark red hat. I'm curious about the itch-fator for him too. I'll let you know how that turns out!
